We are passionate in our desire to reach the lost of Jacksonville, but we are equally passionate in our desire to enable our brothers and sisters in Christ to reach their own communities. Although we work closely with the Southern Baptist Convention churches, we invite all who love the Lord and want to spread His love and Good News. Denominational lines become irrelevant when our focus is on mission, evangelism and God’s kingdom.
We consider our mission trips to be a missionary training field. When working alongside us, groups learn skills, develop confidence and experience what God can do with willing servants. They are then able to return home and apply what they have learned in their own neighborhoods.
Words To Works has a history of thinking outside the box ~ when you work in the inner-city, you have to! Rather than bring children to us, we go to them. We set up day camps and block parties right in the middle of their multi-family complexes so they can walk over and not depend on a willing adult. What’s more, since we also own Go Inflatables, a bounce house and inflatables rental company, we are able to supply our mission groups with an inflatable game to set up during block parties. Do you know what happens when you set up a giant slide? Children come pouring out of the buildings!
Our ministry reaches far beyond the children. We know that the family is the key, so we use every tool, every skill, every opportunity we can find to touch these lives. That is why we are not a one-dimensional ministry. We encourage mission groups of all ages, all skill sets, to come alongside us. Construction projects, homeless outreach, beach ministry, food and clothing pantry…, if you want to do it, we will set it up!
In all of our efforts, however, we never forget our driving purpose: to bring the lost to Christ. We are in this for the long haul. We are uncomfortable with the pray-and-dash philosophy. When someone says a salvation prayer, it is vital that they understand it, otherwise they may be left with a vague belief that they’re “OK” and stop seeking after the Lord. We encourage our mission groups to go to the same area while they are with us, visit with the same people, look in their eyes, listen to their stories, and then lead them to the Cross. Better to lay seeds and let God grow the harvest than to rush a false decision with eternal consequences.
Our mission trips are custom designed for each group, taking into account their size, age, abilities and interests. We are a year ‘round outreach, so we are always especially excited to have seniors come alongside during the school year. We get very busy during Spring Break and summer, so please contact us as soon as possible to explore and reserve your time on the calendar.
Won’t you join us? We look forward to hearing from you soon!
